24th January 2010 - Ready Steady Cook. A good start for Belhus this year
when our team took Second place in the annual district cooking competition.
8th November 2009 - Remembrance
Day. Today representatives of all of our sections from Beavers to
Leaders attended St Michaels Church in Aveley for their Remembrance day
service.
25th - 27th September -
Scout Camp. The scouts took part in a weekends camp at
Thriftwood. They all seemed to enjoy themselves and practiced a number of
skills including tent pitching, fire lighting, cooking and orienteering.
There was also plenty of time to enjoy themselves on the cresta run and
explore the woodlands.
19th July 2009 - Water
Activities. Another district event which focused on giving the scouts an
adventure. Our scouts took part in a number of activities including raft
building, canoeing, climbing and high wires.
16th
June 2009 - Green Bowls. In place of our regular troop night this
week we were invited by the South Ockendon Bowls Club to try our hands at
bowls. Despite some reservations that this was a sport for "old people" the
Scouts had a good time learning how to play. The SOBC were very friendly and
took the time to explain and encourage everyone. At the end of the evening
the Scouts had a play off for the best player and the SOCB provide a trophy
to the winner. Our thanks to the bowls club for their time and use of their
greens.
6th June
2009 - Cub / Scout Linking Day. This was an event organised by the
Scouting district to introduce some of the districts older Cubs to the
activities that Scouts undertake. It also provided an excellent opportunity
for the Cubs to meet the Scout leaders and some of the Scouts within the
troop.
17th May 2009 - District Triathlon. This event consisted of a
½km canoe race, a 1km running race and a 3km cycle
around Belhus Park. We
entered teams into the under 12 team event (1 activity per team member) and
one competitor in the individual under 12 event. Despite an extremely
wet and windy morning all of our Scouts participated in their events and
whilst we were not represented in the finals the Scouts gave their best
efforts in each event. Thanks then to Jack, Franklyn, Albie, Gemma (for
cheering the team on) and Thomas for taking part.
Also thanks to Jonathan (Young Leader) for stopping to help another
competitor during his race.
